Light to moderate to, at times, heavy rains may affect several parts of Bicol region, Visayas, and Mindanao due to the approaching low pressure area (LPA) east of Mindanao, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in a weather advisory on Monday, Jan. 24.

The LPA was estimated at 185 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur as of 10 a.m.

PAGASA said the weather disturbance has a low chance of developing into a tropical depression within 24 to 48 hours, however, it may bring light to moderate with heavy rains over Sorsogon, Masbate, Ticao Island, Visayas, Caraga, Northern Mindanao and Davao Region in the next 24 hours.

"Under these conditions, scattered flooding and rain-induced landslides are likely, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps and in areas with significant antecedent rainfall," the State weather bureau warned.

Moreover, PAGASA advised the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned to take appropriate actions.

"PAGASA Regional Services Division may issue local heavy rainfall warnings, rainfall/thunderstorm advisories, and other severe weather information specific to their areas of responsibility as appropriate," it said.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

However, PAGASA warned the public that the occurrence of severe thunderstorms may sometimes trigger flash floods or landslides.
