Include education in your legislative agenda, senatoriables told
Those who are running for senator in the 2022 national and local elections were challenged to include the concerns of teachers and the entire education sector in their respective legislative agenda.

The Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) Philippines, in a press conference on Monday, Jan. 24, issued the challenge to the candidates vying for a Senate seat.
“As future lawmakers, our Senatorial candidates will hold great power to address the various issues hounding the education sector,” said ACT Secretary-General Raymond Basilio.
ACT said that through the passage of pro-people legislation and ample allocation of needed funds, the “worsening crisis” of the Philippine education system can be resolved.
The group is forwarding five major points for which they are demanding a response from Senatorial candidates:
1. Upgrading of salaries of teachers and non-teaching staff
2. Safe, accessible, and quality education
3. Effective pandemic response
4. Dignity of work; and
5. Respect and protection of democratic rights
“We ask our Senatoriables to heed our calls and include these urgent matters in their legislative agenda,” Basilio said.
“This way, the education sector can know as early as now who among the candidates can represent their interests,” he added.
