DepEd to personnel: Take your COVID-19 booster shots
Education Secretary Leonor Briones encouraged teachers and non-teaching personnel of the Department of Education (DepEd) to take their coronavirus disease (COVID-19) booster shots once they were deemed eligible.

“We are reminding our personnel and offices to not wait since local government units are already vaccinating and giving COVID-19 jabs to their constituents,” Briones said in a statement issued Monday, Jan. 24.
Briones also underscored that vaccination is “one of the essential keys” to protect communities and children against the threats of COVID-19.
Vaccination, Briones stressed, will also provide “additional protection” to stakeholders as DepEd continues to push for the implementation of its safe-return-to-schools initiatives.
“Together with our teachers and learners, DepEd will continue to be a part of our government’s whole-of-nation approach against COVID-19,” Briones said.
DepEd earlier announced that teachers who will be allowed to handled face-to-face classes will be required to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
The agency noted that the government policy of requiring employees who work on-site, including teaching and non-teaching personnel involved in face-to-face classes and in-school activities, to be vaccinated is being implemented as a way of preventing the spread of COVID-19 in schools and DepEd offices to protect learners, clients, and employees to the extent possible.
Meanwhile, DepEd said that schools that were previously used as vaccination sites are “highly encouraged” to reopen especially for pediatric vaccination.
Additionally, DepEd emphasized that personnel's participation as members of vaccination teams remains voluntary.
Should they wish to volunteer, DepEd said that its personnel must be provided with the support enumerated in the DepEd Memorandum 28, s. 2021, or the Comprehensive Guidance on the Participation of the Department of Education in the Implementation of the Philippine National Deployment and Vaccination Plan for COVID-19 Vaccines.
