Active COVID-19 cases in San Juan drop by more than 54%

The active COVID-19 cases in the city of San Juan have dropped by 54.34 percent, the city government announced on Sunday, Jan 23.

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora shared the good news on his official Facebook page saying that from a high of 1,947 on Jan. 12, the city now has 889 active cases as of Jan. 22, Saturday. Zamora said that the sharp decline happened in just 10 days.

Zamora also urged his constituents and the public to get inoculated against COVID-19.

"To those who have received their 2nd dose more than three months ago, please get your booster shots already. Also, to those with children aged 5 to 11 years old, please register them for the COVID-19 vaccines. We will be starting the vaccination of this age group very soon," the mayor said.

"Let's continue to follow all health and safety protocols for the numbers to go down even further," he added.

Zamora stressed that all COVID-19 vaccines work in preventing people to have severe or critical cases and explained that despite the high number of active cases in San Juan, there is still a low percentage of severe and critical cases being recorded in hospitals and quarantine facilities.

Meanwhile, the local government is also giving free flu vaccine jabs to all its residents to their increase protection from viruses.

"For those who just received their COVID-19 vaccines/booster shots, your vaccination/booster must be at least two weeks ago already for you to qualify for the flu vaccine. This will be on a first come, first served basis until supplies last. Please bring your government-issued ID with a San Juan address," Zamora said.
