Navotas City's active COVID-19 cases drop to 705

Active coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in Navotas City dropped to 705 on Friday, Jan. 21, from the 1,012 active cases recorded on Thursday, Jan. 20.

According to the city government, there is only a 4.9 percent increase in active cases on Jan. 20 and 21, compared to the five to eight percent increases seen from Jan. 13 to 19.

Brgy. San Jose had 90 active cases, the most number of COVID-19 infections on Jan. 21.

Barangays NBBS Kaunlaran had 87 cases, NBB Dagatdagatan had 69 cases, and San Roque had 51 cases.

Brgy. San Rafael Village has the lowest number of active COVID-19 cases with seven, followed by barangays Bagumbayan North with eight, and Bagumbayan South with 14.

The one-week growth rate of COVID-19 cases decreased to -20 percent in Metro Manila, according to a statement by Dr. Guido David of OCTA Research Group on Jan. 20.

COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila were projected to return to around 500 in February, David said in a Go Negosyo forum on Jan. 21. Despite the downward trend in COVID-19 cases, Navotas Mayor Tobias “Toby” Tiangco reminded the residents to remain careful and cooperative with the city government’s pandemic response in order to prevent a resurgence in cases.

Tiangco urged residents to continue following the minimum health and safety protocols such as wearing masks properly and observing social distancing.

He also encouraged residents to get their vaccine and booster shots to protect them against the virus.

As of Jan. 21, Navotas City logged 20,784 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 19,469 recoveries, and 610 deaths. (Khriscielle Yalao)
