More rains are expected over several areas in Visayas and Mindanao in the next few days as the low pressure area (LPA) over the Pacific Ocean entered the country's area of responsibility early Sunday morning, Jan. 23, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In a public weather forecast, PAGASA weather specialist Samuel Duran said the LPA was estimated at 965 kilometers east of Mindanao as of 3 a.m.

The LPA still has a minimal chance of developing into a tropical cyclone but is expected to bring rains as it traverses Mindanao in the coming days, Duran said.

As early as Sunday, the trough or extension of the LPA was expected to bring scattered light to, at times, heavy rains over Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Davao Region.

PAGASA advised the public to stay vigilant against possible flooding or landslides, especially those in areas vulnerable to these hazards.

Meanwhile, Duran said the northeast monsoon, locally called "amihan," may still bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains over Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, and Central Luzon.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA warned the public that the occurrence of severe thunderstorms may sometimes trigger flash floods or landslides.
