Episode 12 of Korean drama ‘Snowdrop’ drops in ratings


The JTBC Korean drama “Snowdrop” starring Jung Hae-in and BLACKPINK’s Jisoo experienced a drop in ratings.

Based on data from Nielsen Korea, episode 12 of “Snowdrop” on Jan. 22 received a nationwide rating of 2.521 percent, lower by 0.496 percentage point, compared to 3.017 percent the drama recorded for episode 11 on Jan. 16.

With this, “Snowdrop” did not enter the top 10 shows under the general programming cable TV for the day based on total households subscribed to paid platforms in South Korea.

Based on the number of viewers, episode 12 was watched by 703,000 people (4th place) nationwide in South Korea, slightly lower by 21,000 compared to 724,000 people (fifth place) for episode 11.

On Jan. 22, Oh Jung-se’s drama “Uncle” placed first nationwide again with 8.856 percent while the news program “MBN Newswide” placed 10th with 2.808 percent.

In the Seoul metropolitan area, episode 12 of “Snowdrop” got a rating of 2.805 (seventh place), down by 0.322 percentage point compared to 3.127 percent (fifth place) for episode 11 among general programming cable TV shows.

Based on the number of viewers, episode 12 was watched by 288,000 people (sixth place) in the Seoul metropolitan area, lower by 1,000 compared to 289,000 (fifth place) for episode 11.

In “Snowdrop,” Jung Hae-in plays the role of Im Soo-ho, a 27-year-old graduate student who is a North Korean spy sent to South Korea for a mission.

Jisoo is 20-year-old Eun Young-ro, a first year college student at Hosoo Women’s University. They meet during a group blind date after which Eun Young-ro falls in love with him.

The drama is about political conspiracy and espionage against the backdrop of the 1987 Korean presidential election and romance. In the drama, the South and North Korean governments conspire for political power.

JTBC announced that the 16th and last episode of “Snowdrop” will air on Jan. 30 instead of Feb. 5. Episodes 15 and 16 will air on the same day.

It said it was decided since only one episode will be left and in consideration of the increase in viewership during Seollal or Lunar New Year, which will be from Jan. 31 to Feb. 2. Seollal is one of the most important holidays in Korea.
