DOH says 'accidents' may happen as video of vaccination mishap goes viral

The Department of Health (DOH) said “accidents” may occur during the conduct of vaccination.
This was the reminder of DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire after a video went viral on social media—showing that a healthcare worker had failed to properly administer a COVID-19 vaccine.
In the said video, it was shown that the syringe needle broke causing the contents of the vaccine to spill.
"Iyon pong ating mga nangyayari na mga ganitong hindi naman mga sinasadya but these are some things na puwedeng mangyari (These kinds of instances are not intentional but these are some things that can happen) during the process of vaccination," said Vergeire in a public briefing on Saturday, Jan. 22.
Healthcare workers who commit mistakes should explain to the vaccine recipient what happened, said Vergeire.
“Gusto ko lang hong i-remind sa ating mga kababayan na kapag ho may mga nangyayaring ganito, these are accidents at kailangan lang po ipagbigay-alam sa inyo at maintindihan ninyo kung ano ang nangyari at maibigay po sa inyo ang tamang dose ng bakuna (I just want to remind our citizens that when something like this happens, these are accidents. They just need to inform you in order for you to understand what happened--- and eventually give you the proper vaccine dose),” she said.
“Kailangan lang po talaga ipaliwanag maigi ng ating vaccination sites what happened at ibigay uli iyong dapat na dose para po doon sa ating kababayan (Our vaccination sites just need to explain well what happened and give the appropriate dose),” she added.
