Team Secret's DubsteP hailed as top Asian player

Team Secret’s Jayvee “DubsteP” Paguirigan was hailed as the top Asian player at the Valo2Asia awards following a yearlong brilliance capped by a solid showing in the Valorant Champions 2021in Berlin, Germany.

DubsteP ranked first in the awards which was held to honor top Asian players that have raised the bar for the Valorant scene.

Picked by the Board of Judges which was composed of Valorant casters and analysts, DubsteP snagged the top spot after leading his squad to a shock playoff berth in the Champions. DubsteP also ranked eighth in the average combat score (ACS) in the tournament heavily dominated by European and North American squads.

Aside from DubsteP, the rest of the crew also landed a spot in the Top 20 Asian players with Jessie “JessieVash” Cristy Cuyco and Riley “witz” Go taking the 11th and 13th spots while Jim “BORKUM” Timbreza and Kevin “Dispenser” Te ranked 16th and 17th respectively.

Pegged as the heavy underdogs in the world tilt, Team Secret defied expectations and finished second in its group. TS introduced itself to the global scene after dragging its match against the European powerhouse team Gambit Esports to a winner-take-all.

Although TS lost 2-1 in that game, the all-Filipino crew went on a hot streak sweeping Japanese team Crazy Raccoons and Brazilian squad Team Vikings to book a spot to the playoffs.

TS however fell prey to the eventual champions Acend in the quarterfinals as the squad finished at the 5th-8th spots.

That, however, couldn’t dampen Dubstep’s rise to prominence as he also got the nomination for the Best Jett Player of the Year award in the 2021 VCT Season All-Pro Valorant Team.

Aside from the stellar Champions, the squad also finished first in the 1st Valo2asia Launch Invitational 2021 and 1st VCT Stage 3 – SEA Challenger Playoffs.
