'No strings attached': Robredo reveals advantage of her volunteers' fund drives
Presidential aspirant Vice President Leni Robredo on Saturday, Jan. 22, dubbed her volunteers and supporters' crowdsourcing activities as the best type of campaign donations since these have “no strings attached".

She assured the public that these fund drives follow election laws, adding that her camp has checked the social media accounts and platforms where these are being done.
“Ito ang pinakamabisang paraan na iba iyong nagso-solicit, iba ‘yung nagkaka-crowd source, iba din iyong gumagastos ng mga funds na nalikom (This is the most effective way that others are soliciting, others are crowdsourcing, others are spending the funds collected),” Robredo said in the Jessica Soho presidential interviews.
The aspiring president stressed that she doesn’t have any “personal relationships” with the donors, noting that there are “no commitments” because these are independent activities of the volunteers.
Volunteer group Team Leni Robredo launched a crowdsourcing page shortly after the Vice President announced her presidential run last October.
The page has a disclosure section about the donors’ citizenship. It also said that the funds will not be remitted to the Office of the Vice President (OVP) or to Robredo herself.
“So, none of that amount ni-receive namin (we received none of the amount),” she stressed.
These funds are being used for volunteer-initiated activities, the lady official added.
Receiving campaign funds from businessmen and politicians is one of the long-running issues in the Philippine elections landscape as winning candidates are percevied to be indebted to these donors once they come to power.
Meanwhile, Robredo also lamented that Filipinos never seem to learn from “mistakes in the past.”
This, as well as the Filipinos values system, should be addressed in the country’s educational system.
“Maraming mga leksyon na nabigay sa atin sa mga pagkakamali natin sa nakaraan pero paulit-ulit natin itong ginagawa at parang hindi tayo natuto (There are a lot of lessons that we have been given based on the mistakes we did in the past but we keep on doing this and it’s like we do not learn),” she said.
“Iyong (The) prognosis nito kailangan talagang ma-embed na siya sa ating (here is it needs to be embedded in our) educational system para bata pa lang naiintindihan niya na kung ano iyon ang mali at tama (so that the children will understand what’s wrong and right while they are young),” Robredo added.
