LPA over Pacific likely to enter PH area of responsibility on January 22 or 23

Caraga and Eastern Visayas may start to experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the trough or extension of an approaching low pressure area (LPA) east of Mindanao, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Saturday, Jan. 22.

PAGASA weather specialist Robb Gile said the LPA was last spotted at 1,435 kilometers east of Mindanao as of 3 a.m.

It will likely enter the country's area of responsibility between Saturday evening, Jan. 22, and Sunday morning, Jan. 23.

Gile said the LPA has a slim chance of intensifying into a tropical cyclone but due to its westward movement, the central and southern portions of the country will still experience rains in the coming week.

In the next 24 hours, the trough of the LPA will begin to affect Caraga and Eastern Visayas.

PAGASA warned that moderate to, at times, heavy rains due to the trough of the LPA could trigger flooding or landslides in Caraga and Eastern Visayas.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon and shear line will bring cloudy skies and rains over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, and Quezon.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light monsoon rains may affect Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, and the rest of Central Luzon.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
