Essential contents, concepts in developing nationalism integrated into all grade levels --- DepEd
Even without a dedicated subject in Philippine History in high school, the Department of Education (DepEd) guaranteed that essential contents and concepts in developing nationalism and civic competence among Filipino learners are embedded and integrated into all grade levels.

DepEd said that it remains faithful to its promise -- as reflected in the K to 12 Programs Conceptual Framework --- to develop a holistic Filipino with 21st century skills.
The existing Araling Panlipunan (AP) Curriculum, DepEd explained, covers contents on Philippine History which serve as take-off points in all discussions relative to Asian Studies, World History, Economics and Contemporary Issues in Junior High School and Understanding Culture, Society and Politics, Philippine Politics and Governance in Senior High School.
“The AP Curriculum design is based on an expanding horizon approach which logically follows a geographical paradigm of spiraling content,” DepEd said.
DepEd also stressed that the teaching of nationalism “should not be limited” to the discussion of Philippine revolutions and national heroes as civic competencies should be developed in consonance with the highly evolving social and political systems in integrated global economies.
Meanwhile, DepEd clarified that the redesign of the curriculum was initiated by the preceding DepEd administration. “At present, it is under review by the current administration,” the agency explained.
Amid claims that Philippine History has been removed from the curriculum, DepEd guaranteed that essential contents and concepts in developing nationalism and civic competence among Filipino learners are “embedded and integrated” in all grade levels in the AP subject.
