Makati City 's active COVID-19 cases breach 2,000-mark

The Makati City Health Department announced that the city has breached 2,000 active coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases, recording 2,100 active cases on Thursday, Jan. 20, from 1,809 cases on Wednesday, Jan. 19.

The latest COVID-19 surge in the country, brought about by the Omicron variant, disrupted the start of a decline in cases that was observed in the city prior to the holiday season last year.

Less than 50 active cases were recorded from Dec. 1 to 28, 2021.

Active cases jumped to 164 by Jan. 1, then reached 506 by Jan. 6.

Makati City breached the 1,000-mark for active COVID-19 cases on Jan. 13, recording 1,044 active cases.

The barangays in District 1 with the highest number of cases are Poblacion with 155 cases, Bel Air with 136 cases, Pio del Pilar with 127 cases, San Lorenzo with 106 cases, and Bangkal with 101.

Meanwhile, the barangays with the most active COVID-19 cases in District 2 are Pembo with 138 cases, West Rembo with 129 cases, and Guadalupe Nuevo with 122 cases.

Brgy. Urdaneta logged the least number of active COVID-19 cases in District 1 on Jan. 20, with seven cases, followed by Brgy. Forbes Park with 14 cases, and Brgy. Singkamas with 19 cases.

Brgy, PP Northside in District 2 recorded zero active COVID-19 cases both on Jan. 19 and 20.

District 2 barangays PP Southside and Pinagkaisahan had 16, and 17 cases respectively on Jan. 20.

The Makati City government reminded its residents to follow the minimum health and safety protocols, avoid unnecessary public outings, and to contact the city health department if they are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.

To cope with the COVID-19 surge and maintain public safety, the city government also passed an ordinance restricting the mobility of unvaccinated individuals on Jan. 13, in accordance with the Metro Manila Council (MMC) resolution agreed upon on Jan. 3.

As of Jan. 20, Makati City recorded 48,247 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 45,156 recoveries, and 991 deaths.
