Hundreds get COVID jabs at Manila Zoo

More than 500 people received their COVID-19 vaccines at the newly-refurbished Manila Zoo vaccination site in Malate, Manila as of Thursday, Jan. 20, the city government announced.

Since the launch of the Manila Zoo vaccination site on Wednesday, Jan. 19, medical workers onsite have vaccinated 533 people against COVID-19.

Of the 533 vaccines deployed, 129 were for the first dose for both adults and minors aged 12 to 17, while 20 were for the second dose. A total of 384 booster shots was administered to adults.

The Manila Zoo vaccination site is primarily focused on vaccinating minors, aged 12 to 17, and senior citizens although all priority groups are eligible to receive their vaccines at the site.

Only 1,000 individuals will be vaccinated at the site per day.

The Manila Zoee vaccination site is also set to vaccinate minors aged five to 11 once the Department of Health (DOH) gives the go-signal to begin the inoculation for the lower age bracket and once Manila receives its shipment of the Pfizer-brand vaccine which was granted Emergency Use Authorization by the Food and Drug Administration for use on the younger population, aged five to 11.

According to Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, about 190,848 minors have been pre-registered by their parents for pediatric vaccination through Manila’s online vaccine registration facility: 182,980 for the 12 to 17 age bracket, and 7,868 for the five to 11 age bracket.
