Ex-VP Binay on 'No Vax, No Ride' policy: Wala pa din ba silang group chat?

"Hello, 2022 na at malapit nang mag-two years ang lockdown. Hindi pa rin ba sila nag-uusap kahit sa group chat?" (It's already 2022 and we're almost two years under lockdown. Have they not been talking even through group chat?)

This was what Former-Vice President and senatorial aspirant Jejomar Binay had to say about the national government's "No Vaccination, No Ride" policy restricting the mobility of unvaccinated and partially vaccinated (those inoculated with only their first jab) individuals amid the ongoing COVID-19 surge caused by the Omicron and Delta variants.

"By now it’s clear that the 'No Vaccination, No Ride' fiasco is the latest example of government still fumbling its way through this pandemic. And as always, it is the public that suffers," Binay said in a statement on Thursday, Jan. 20.

"As we have repeatedly pointed out, government’s response to the pandemic has been defined by the absence of clear directions and efficient management. Policies are rolled out without the benefit of detailed guidelines and proper coordination. This would have minimized, if not removed, any confusion on the part of citizens who are being made to comply, and enforcers who are tasked to ensure compliance," he added.

Binay pointed out the numerous erratic and complicated policies of the national government in addressing the pandemic that brought even more confusion to the public like if children are allowed or not to enter malls; if seniors allowed to go out of their homes or not; indecisiveness in implementing barriers in motorcycles; whether or not to jail curfew violators; if those who are about to get vaccinated or partially vaccinated are allowed to ride public transport; and many others.

"Is it difficult for government officials to deliberate and agree on a policy before it is implemented? Mahirap bang magsulat ng guidelines at magpa-zoom meeting bago ito ipatupad? (Is it difficult to draft guidelines and conduct a Zoom meeting before its implementation)," Binay said.

"By March, we would be under a government-imposed lockdown for two years. Two years of fear and uncertainty. Ganito pa rin ba sa ikatlong taon? (Will this be the same situation for the third year)," he added.
