2 men nabbed for violating Comelec gun ban in QC

Police arrested two car-riding men for violating the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban at a checkpoint in Barangay Greater Fairview, Quezon City on Wednesday evening, Jan. 19.

Lt. Col. Jowie B. Lucas, Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Fairview Station (PS 5) commander, identified the suspects as Richmond Carolino, 36, resident of Brgy. Sauyo, Quezon City; and Alexis Patrocinio, 21, of Brgy. Greater Fairview.

Personnel from the PS 5 were manning a Comelec checkpoint at the corner of Republic and Regalado Avenues in Brgy. Greater Fairview on Wednesday at around 7:30 p.m. when they stopped the two suspects, who were riding an orange Toyota Vios, for not wearing facemasks.

The QCPD said the suspects sped away when the officers were about to check Carolino's verification card.

The cops pursued and cornered the suspects along Republic Avenue where they were arrested.

Authorities recovered from the two suspects a .9mm pistol with serial number 1752P, two magazines, 30 ammunition, the Toyota Vios, a black slingback, identification cards and two cell phones.

The suspects will be charged with violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition in relation to Omnibus Election Code, and City Ordinance No. 2957 S-2020 for not wearing facemasks.

Carolino will also be charged with violation of Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code for Resistance and Disobedience to a Person in Authority.
