The City of Manila has recorded over 400 active coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases on the first day of 2022.
As of Jan. 1, a total of 435 COVID-19 cases were recorded in Manila, the highest number seen since the start of November where about 430 cases were recorded on Nov. 2.

On Dec. 31, about 312 active COVID-19 cases were recorded.
Tondo 1 district currently has the highest concentration of cases with 140, followed by Tondo 2 with 53, and Sampaloc with 48.
An increase in cases was observed over the holidays starting from Dec. 24 in which only 78 cases were logged, signalling an increase of about 357 cases in just eight days.
The total number of COVID-19 cases nationwide breached the 3,000 mark on Jan. 1 when 3,617 cases were recorded, according to the Department of Health (DOH).
Following the COVID-19 surge, the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases placed the National Capital Region under Alert Level 3 from Jan. 3 to 15.
