900 evacuation centers still serving 'Odette' evacuees -- DSWD

More than a month after typhoon Odette struck the Philippines, 111,864 persons or almost 30,000 families continue to seek temporary shelter in 900 evacuation centers in six regions, said the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

As of Jan. 18, Tuesday, 900 evacuations remain open in MIMAROPA (Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan), Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga.

Meanwhile, DSWD said there are still 11,661 families or 39,673 persons temporarily staying with their relatives or friends in Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga

The DSWD said that 2.5 million families or 8.8 million individuals were affected by typhoon Odette in 9,003 barangays in MIMAROPA, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Soccsksargen, and Caraga.

Typhoon Odette also damaged 1.5 million houses in MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga--407,141 of which were totally damaged and 1,123679 were partially damaged.

So far, at least P699 million worth of humanitarian assistance was extended to the affected families.

Of the total assistance, P484,548,572.02 was provided by the DSWD, P189,955,832.90 from local government units, P8,513,660.03 from non-government organizations, and P16,315,610 from DSWD's other partners.
