64th Grammy Awards reset to April 3

The 64th Annual Grammy Awards show has been reset to April 3 after it was postponed due to the concerns about the highly transmissible Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus.

The Recording Academy issued a statement on Jan. 18 to say that the music awards show, to be hosted by “The Daily Show” host Trevor Noah, will be held on April 3 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

“The show moved from its original date of Jan. 31 amid growing concerns surrounding the Omicron variant,” according to the Recording Academy.

As a result, the CMT Awards, originally scheduled to happen on April 3, will be reset “ to a later date in April.”

“Additional details about the dates and locations of other official GRAMMY Week events, including the GRAMMY Awards Premiere Ceremony, MusiCares Person of the Year and the Pre-GRAMMY Gala will be announced soon,” according to the new announcement.

The Grammy Awards show was originally scheduled to be held at Crypto.com Arena (formerly Staples Center) in Los Angeles.

“After careful consideration and analysis with city and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community and our many partners, the Recording Academy and CBS have postponed the 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards Show,” according to the statement issued by the Recording Academy and CBS last Jan. 5.

They added, “The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority. Given the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant, holding the show on January 31st simply contains too many risks. We look forward to celebrating Music’s Biggest Night on a future date, which will be announced soon.”

K-pop superstars BTS canceled their US trip after the Grammy Awards show was postponed. They were scheduled to attend the Jan. 31 ceremony.

At the 64th Grammy Awards, BTS received a nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Butter.” Other nominees are “I Get a Kick Out of You” by Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, “Lonely” by Justin Bieber and Benny Blanco, “Higher Power” by Coldplay and “Kiss Me More” by Doja Cat featuring SZA.
