Opposition coalition 1Sambayan will formally endorse the tandem of Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, as well as seven aspirants in their senatorial slate, in a "star-studded" event slated on Jan. 28.

1Sambayan co-convenor Howard Calleja said that the coalition will endorse Robredo-Pangilinan next week before the official start of the campaign period for national aspirants on Tuesday, Feb. 8.
1Sambayan will endorse reelectionists Senators Leila de Lima and Risa Hontiveros, former Ifugao Rep. Teddy Baguilat Jr., human rights lawyer Chel Diokno, book author Alex Lacson, labor lawyer Sonny Matula, and former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV.
“For now, I can safely say we have seven senators endorsed by 1Sambayan...we are still open for others, but for the 28, we will declare those seven in our senatorial line-up together with Leni and Kiko,” he said in a virtual presser.
Robredo’s original senatorial lineup includes former Vice President Jejomar Binay, reelectionists Richard Gordon, Joel Villanueva, and Migz Zubiri, and Sorsogon Gov. Chiz Escudero.
Calleja said that 1Sambayan’s endorsement will be an “ongoing list” and that the Jan. 28 event is an “opening salvo".
The 1Sambayan co-convenor shared that the event next week will be attended by celebrities and artists who volunteered to endorse the opposition tandem of Robredo and Pangilinan.

“Simula pa lang po. Marami pong mangyari (This is just the start. A lot will still happen), and I’m sure that we can surmount the lead and become victorious come May 9, 2022,” Calleja said.
Among the artists who will perform in next week’s event are singer-songwriter Nica Del Rosario, who composed “Kay Leni Tayo” and the chart-topping “Tala” sung by Sarah Geronimo; award-winning singer-composer Ogie Alcasid; and Agat Morallos who wrote “Leni Robredo, Ating Pinuno".
Noel Cabangon, Jim Paredes, and maestro Ryan Cayabyab are also expected to grace the event.
Alcasid shared that he is lending his talents to the campaign because he believes Robredo is the rightful leader the country needs.
“Naniniwala ako na si Leni ay pinakamahusay, tapat, responsable, isa siyang doer, collaborative siya, nakikinig siya, makikita nyo naman may malasakit siya at kaya nandito ako naniniwala ako siya ang pinakamagaling na lider (I believe that Leni is the most competent, honest, responsible , she’s a doer, she’s collaborative, she listens, you saw that she really has compassion and I’m here because I believe that she’s the best leader),” he said.

The singer-songwriter said that his endorsement of Robredo doesn’t mean he wants to argue with those who have yet to see that she’s the best presidential candidate. Rather, Alcasid seeks to enlighten them so they may also see her good qualities.
“Bukod dito, naniniwala ako na kailangan niya tulong natin. Medyo mahina ang makinarya pero naniniwala ako na tayo ang kanyang makinarya. Kung kaya andito ako na nagboluntaryo at handang tumulong (Aside from this, I believe that she needs our help. The machinery is weak but I believe that we are her machinery. That’s why I’m here volunteering and ready to help),” he added.
Calleja shared that 67 local chapters and 27 foreign chapters of 1Sambayan, as well as other celebrities, will also join the Jan. 28 event for the opposition candidates.
