Juan Gomez de Liano was released from his contract by Earthfriends Tokyo Z, the second division club of Japan’s B.League announced Tuesday, Jan. 18.
Tokyo Z said both parties mutually agreed on the release which would make the former University of the Philippines star a free agent after playing 17 games.
“Thank you Tokyo Z for giving me the opportunity and opening doors for me to play in such a beautiful country,” Gomez de Liano said in a statement released by Tokyo Z. “I have learned a lot from this team and will continue to be grateful.”
The sweet-shooting Gomez de Liano had been given inconsistent playing time since being signed by Tokyo Z last year and posted 5.3 points on 35-percent shooting with 2.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 16.3 minutes.
Gomez de Liano scored in double figures four times, including a season-best 15 points in an 80-76 loss to the Fukushima Firebonds.
But Gomez de Liano has not played since Dec. 4 against the Aomori Wat’s.
Tokyo Z holds the third-worst record in the B.League’s second-tier competition with a 5-25 record.
His departure from Tokyo Z leaves Aomori’s Kemark Carino as the only Filipino suiting up in the B.League second division.
