Metro Manila colleges, universities to start limited face-to-face classes in February

Higher education institutions (HEIs) located in the National Capital Region (NCR) moved their opening of limited face-to-face classes next month, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) said.

CHED Chairman Popoy De Vera, during President Duterte’s Talk to the Nation aired on Jan. 17, explained that universities and colleges under Alert Level 3 were allowed to begin the conduct of limited face-to-face classes by the end of this month.

However, given the continuous surge in coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the country, De Vera said that Metro Manila HEIs “have decided to start the implementation of limited face-to-face classes in February 2022” including the University of the Philippines (UP) for graduate school and select courses only.

Despite this, De Vera said that “HEIs can open their semester online for the meantime, then can shift to limited face-to-face classes when the data on the ground shows that it is already safe.”

With this adjustment, De Vera said that enrollment is ongoing for the second semester in many NCR schools.

Meanwhile, De Vera said that HEIs in regions VII, VIII, and CARAGA “have moved their opening” for the repair of facilities damaged by typhoon Odette.
