234 market workers, vendors get COVID-19 jabs in QC

A total of 234 market vendors and employees as well as ambulant vendors in Quezon City were inoculated against COVID-19 as of Wednesday, Jan 19.

The local government said that they have identified 1,300 market and ambulant workers who have yet to get vaccinated.

The vaccinations were conducted at the Quezon Memorial Circle (QMC) and Esteban Abada Elementary School.

Mayor Joy Belmonte earlier signed a memorandum that will provide P2,000 incentives to market and ambulant workers who will get themselves jabbed against the virus from Jan. 8 to 31.

"We understand that most vendors cannot take a day off due to loss of income that would put food on the family table, so we decided to provide them with an incentive to encourage them to receive COVID-19 shots," Belmonte said.

Unvaccinated workers from the different markets were scheduled for inoculation after the city’s Market Development and Administration Department (MDAD) and Task Force for Transport and Traffic Management (TF-TTM) have verified their eligibility for the program.

They can present a vending permit, certification from their barangay or reputable vendors’ association, and proof of residency (QC identification card, barangay ID, and voter’s ID).

Meanwhile, the local government said that a total of 570 unvaccinated commuters were brought to the QMC for immunization since the implementation of the “No Vaccine, No Ride” policy in Metro Manila started on Monday, Jan. 17. They were accompanied by members of the Task Force Disiplina (TFD), Philippine National Police (PNP), I-Act, and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

It added that unvaccinated individuals who need to go out for essential purposes and those who cannot be vaccinated due to medical conditions are exempted from the policy.

Individuals who were hesitant to get jabbed were sent home and asked to get a clearance as a proof that they cannot be inoculated (certification from licensed physician or from respective barangays).

Deck Pelembergo, TFD action officer, urged the unvaccinated passengers to get their COVID-19 jabs as the strict implementation of the policy will continue in the city’s major thoroughfares.
