Philippine representatives Grindsky Eris were crowned as queens of Southeast Asia Esports Championship 2021 Wild Rift Women’s Tournament after sweeping Thai squad War Elephant, 3-0, in the best-of-five Grand Finals on Sunday Jan. 16.

After cruising to the Finals with a clean slate in the group stage and in the playoffs, Grindsky, composed of the quintet of Rose Ann “Hell Girl” Robles, Christine "Ray Ray" Natividad, April Mae “Aeae” Sotto, Charize “Yugen” Doble, and Gianna “Jeeya” Llanes had to survive a tough challenge from War Elephant in the first two games before running away in the decider to bag the title and the $6,000 top prize.
Yugen claimed the tournament MVP honors after posting an average KDA of 8.0 and 88.9 percent kill participation in the three-game sweep in the Finals.
War Elephant went off to a good start with an early 7-1 lead in the series opener but GS quickly caught up following a clash for the mountain drake at the seven-minute mark of the game. That was the only break the Filipinas needed to get their game going and control the rest of the match.
A Baron take and a late contest from the Thais allowed GS to take down three heroes and eventually end Game 1 with a 22-11 victory.

The same story happened in the second game as WE comfortably built a 21-11 kill score lead. The Filipinas’ split pushing strategy created the space for the squad to sneak in for the Baron take at the 20-minute mark.
A huge clash in the midlane which went to GS’ favor after a triple kill from Hell Girl completed an ace and a commanding 2-0 series lead after a 19-33 comeback win.

With all the momentum on its side, Grindsky then showed no let up in the third game as the Filipinas seized control right from the get go and left the Thais in the dust with a 27-9 domination in the title-clinching Game 3.
Grindsky topped the group stage with a 2-0 record in Group A to secure a spot in the semifinals. The Filipinas then swept Singapore's Team OK, 3-0, to reach the Grand Finals.
Meanwhile in the Men's Tournament, Fennel Adversity fell flat and got eliminated in the group stage after finishing fourth in its group with a 1-2-1 record. Wild Rift SEA Championship titlists SBTC Esports ruled the tournament while Fennel ended up at the 7th-8th spots.
