Taguig City's weekly new COVID-19 cases jump by 335%

Taguig City experienced a steep rise in its weekly number of new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases.

According to a report by the Taguig City government, the number of new COVID-19 cases from Jan. 7 to 13 rose to 1,389 or a daily average of 198 new cases.

This is an increase of 1,070 new cases or 335.4% from 319 recorded from Dec. 31. to Jan. 6, which had a daily average of 46 cases.

Of the 616 active cases reported on Jan. 13, those belonging to the 30-44 age group had the highest tally with 250 (40.6 percent) followed by 18-29 (31) and 45-59 with 73 (11.8 percent).

As of Jan. 14, Taguig has 849 active COVID-19 cases including 279 new cases out of 54,534 confirmed cases, 53,244 recoveries and 441 deaths.

The Taguig Safe City Task Force reported that from Jan. 7 to 13, a total of 1,380 individuals were apprehended from which 1,296 warnings were given, 45 were given citation tickets and 39 were reports received.

The No. 1 violation is not observing social distancing protocols followed by not wearing face masks, loitering in violation of quarantine rules, no vaccination cards on public utility vehicles and prohibited leisure activities.

As of Jan. 14, Taguig has fully vaccinated 770,338 individuals, or 87.3 percent of the estimated total population of 882,512. Of the total, 736,615 were vaccinated in Taguig hubs while 33,723 were inoculated in private centers.

The city has also administered the first dose of the vaccine to 831,148 or 94 percent of the total population.

A total of 109,485 minors aged 12 to 17 have received their first dose and 51,517 of them have been fully vaccinated.

Taguig has also administered 103,277 booster shots.
