Scattered rains, thunderstorms to prevail across PH due to various weather systems – PAGASA

Various weather systems may bring isolated rains and thunderstorms across the country in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Saturday, Jan. 15.

PAGASA weather specialist Samuel Duran said in a public weather forecast that various weather systems namely northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan”, and the shear line or the convergence of warm and cold winds, may bring scattered rains and thunderstorms across the country in the next 24 hours.

“Wala po tayong binabantayan na low pressure area (LPA) o bagyo sa loob po ng ating Philippine area of responsibility (PAR). Ito pong shear line ay nananatiling nakakaapekto pa rin dito sa may eastern section ng Mindanao. Samantala, northeast monsoon ang nakakaapekto sa nalalabing bahagi ng ating bansa (We are not monitoring any LPA or tropical cyclone inside PAR. The shear line continues to affect the eastern section of Mindanao. Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon affects the rest of the country),” said Duran.

Residents of northern Mindanao, Caraga, SOCCSKSARGEN, Davao Region, and BARMM were also warned against possible flash floods and landslides during moderate to at times heavy rains that the shear line may bring.

Meanwhile, cloudy skies with light rains may prevail in Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Aurora, Quezon, and Camarines Norte due to the northeast monsoon.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country may likewise experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the northeast monsoon, PAGASA said.
