OCTA: Omicron surge slows down in Cavite, Rizal, Bulacan

The Omicron surge of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) may be slowing down in Cavite, Rizal, and Bulacan, but it is still maturing and accelerating in several Philippine provinces, said an OCTA Research fellow on Saturday, Jan. 15.

“The surge may be slowing down in Cavite, Rizal, and Bulacan, it is still maturing in Laguna, Pampanga, and Benguet. It is accelerating in Batangas and Isabela. In Cebu, Pangasinan Quezon, Iloilo, Camarines Sur, Davao del Sur, and Negros Occidental, the surge is still in its early stage but likely to be accelerating,” said David in a Twitter post.

OCTA’s data showed that Cavite, Rizal, and Bulacan recorded an average daily attack rate (ADAR) of 55.71, 58.72, and 46.72 respectively.

Among the provinces categorized under the “mature stage” were Laguna (45.59), Pampanga (25.19), and Benguet (36.18).

Moreover, the surge is “accelerating” in Batangas (23.82) and Isabela (12.06), while it is still in the “early stage” in Cebu (6.85), Pangasinan (8.92), Quezon (9.71), Iloilo (8.58), Camarines Sur (9.47), Davao del Sur (6.42), and Negros Occidental (5.12).

David likewise reiterated that there is “uncertainty” in the projections because of possible backlog and overwhelmed testing.

Meanwhile, in a separate report, OCTA said that the daily COVID-19 growth rate in Metro Manila has been decreasing steadily and is now at three percent – a “strong evidence” that the trend in the region is peaking, David said.
