Paranaque City gov't announces school health break

Paranaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez announced the suspension of classes starting Jan.15 up to Jan. 21 to ease the burden brought by the surge in COVID-19 cases.

Olivarez said the Department of Education (DepEd)-National Capital Region issued a memorandum directing the school division superintendent to suspend the classes in all public and private schools.

He said that classes in Paranaque City will resume on Jan. 24 to 29 through asynchronous distance learning modalities.

The mayor said the suspension of classes was made to ease the effect of the spike in COVID-19 cases on the physical and mental well-being of the school personnel and learners.

Olivarez said that during the suspension of classes, it is expected that physical reporting of teachers will not be required by the school heads.

He also said that based on the memorandum, the mid-year break set on Jan. 31 to Feb. 5 shall be utilized by the learners to comply with backlogs in learning outputs, while teachers are expected to attend to their usual activities including in-service training and other learning-related undertakings.
