No weather disturbance seen to affect PH; shear line, 'amihan' to bring isolated rains

No weather disturbance is expected to affect the country in the next 24 hours, but two weather systems namely northeast monsoon, locally called “amihan”, and the shear line, also called the tail-end of frontal system, will bring isolated rains across the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Friday, Jan. 14.

“Sa kasalukuyan ay wala po tayong mino-monitor na low pressure area (LPA) o bagyo sa loob po ng ating Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), ito pong shear line ay nagdadala ng pag-ulan dito sa may eastern section ng Mindanao. Samantala, amihan naman ang umiiral dito sa Luzon at Visayas (Currently, we are not monitoring any LPA or tropical cyclone within the PAR, but the shear line is bringing rains in the eastern section of Mindanao. Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon prevails across Luzon and Visayas),” said PAGASA weather specialist Samuel Duran in a public weather forecast.

The State weather bureau warned residents of Caraga, northern Mindanao, and Davao region against possible flash floods and landslides during light to moderate to at times heavy rains that the shear line may bring.

Meanwhile, in the next 24 hours, PAGASA said that Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Aurora, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes may experience cloudy skies with light rains due to the northeast monsoon.

Metro Manila, Visayas, and the rest of Luzon may likewise experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the northeast monsoon, said PAGASA.
