Muntinlupa's active COVID-19 cases reach more than 3,600

Muntinlupa City’s active coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases rose to more than 3,600 after recording over 1,000 new cases in one day.

Tally released by the Muntinlupa City government showed that on Jan. 14, the city’s active COVID-19 jumped to 3,625, an increase of 980 cases or 37 percent, from the previous day’s 2,545 active cases.

A total of 1,251 new cases, 271 new recoveries and zero deaths were recorded on Jan. 14. Muntinlupa’s confirmed cases totaled 31,965 as of Jan. 14 with 27,754 recoveries and 586 deaths.

Of the 3,625 total active cases, Bgy. Putatan has the highest with 818 followed by Poblacion, 557; Ayala Alabang, 446; Alabang, 439; Cupang, 407; Tunasan, 386; Sucat, 288; Bayanan, 202; and Buli, the smallest barangay, 82.

On Jan. 14, Putatan added the highest number of new cases with 297 followed by Poblacion, 200; Ayala Alabang, 157; Cupang, 153; Alabang, 141; Tunasan, 120; Sucat, 99; Bayanan, 62; and Buli, 22.

The National Capital Region is experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases.

The Department of Health (DOH) earlier said the likelihood that the highly transmissible Omicron variant is already in communities is very high.

In the last seven days, Muntinlupa recorded 2,973 new COVID-19 cases as its confirmed cases jumped from 28,992 on Jan. 8 to 31,965 on Jan. 14.

The city government’s We Heal As One Center isolation and quarantine facility in Bgy. Tunasan has 83 patients or 57.6 percent of its total capacity of 144.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi reiterated his advice to the public to strictly follow health protocols including wearing of face masks, physical distancing and handwashing.

The DOH recorded 37,207 new COVID-19 in the country on Jan. 14 to bring the total active cases nationwide to 265,509.
