Mandaluyong LGU suspends vaccination drive amid COVID-19 surge

The Mandaluyong City local government announced on Wednesday, Jan. 12, the temporary closure of most of its COVID-19 vaccination sites as the city continues to grapple with the surge in COVID-19 cases.

In a Facebook post, the local government unit (LGU) said that most of its vaccination sites are closed starting Jan. 13 until Saturday, Jan. 15, to give way to the disinfection of the sites and the recovery of its vaccination teams who have contracted the coronavirus.

Only the Unilab Bayanihan Vaccination Site will remain open for vaccination this week.

The LGU said that the vaccination sites will resume their operations on Monday, Jan. 17 and urged the public to wait for other announcements on its official Facebook page.

It also reminded city residents to get inoculated against the virus and to get boosted for those who are fully vaccinated.

The City Health Office (CHO) reported that as of Jan. 11, 1,097,549 vaccines have already been deployed in the city. Of this number, 526,600 residents have received their first dose while 505,040 have been fully vaccinated. It added that 88,661 individuals have also received their booster shots against COVID-19.

The CHO also reported that the city has recorded 1,690 active COVID-19 cases as of Jan. 12. It added that 26,579 residents have recovered from the coronavirus while 579 have died.
