Faithful invited to join novena in honor of Senor Santo Nino

Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma has invited the faithful to join the novena in honor of Senor Santo Nino in preparation for the feast of the Child Jesus on January 16.

The novena masses in observance of the 457th Fiesta Senor are held at the Minor Basilica of Cebu to a limited number of attendees. The large majority are invited to join the holy masses online. Novena masses on Thursday, January 13, will be held at 5 a.m., 6:30 a.m., and at 8 a.m.

Archbishop Palma expressed his gratitude to the devotees for their strong faith in the Holy Child and for their readiness to help calamity victims.

“Let us continue to support one another on our road to recovery from typhoon Odette and COVID-19, through God’s grace,” Palma said over Radio Veritas.

The Archdiocese of Cebu has allowed parishes under its jurisdiction to celebrate masses in celebration of the feast while observing strict safety measures. The feast of Senor Santo Nino before the pandemic was observed with grand processions and festive dancing highlighted by the Sinulog in Cebu.

Archbishop Palma called on the faithful to remain strong in faith despite the challenges brought by the pandemic and the destruction brought to the province by typhoon Odette. The Church leader appealed to the faithful to “continue to pray for healing and for the safety of everyone amid the rise in coronavirus cases around the country.”
