Navotas City begins construction of convention center

The Navotas city government has started constructing the Navotas Convention Center (NCC), according to Navotas City Mayor Toby Tiangco and Navotas District Representative John Rey Tiangco on Wednesday, Jan. 12.

The NCC’s construction is in partnership with the local government unit (LGU), the office of the congressman, and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

The city government held a groundbreaking ceremony for the convention center on Nov. 10, 2021.

Built near the Navotas Centennial Park, the NCC will be the city’s prime venue for community gatherings, celebrations, and sports events that will also aid in generating livelihood opportunities for the city’s residents.

The NCC is a part of Mayor Tiangco's aim to create world-class infrastructure within the city in order to increase tourism and encourage collaborative projects and activities with other cities.

The surrounding area and the first floor of the building will be reserved for outdoor and indoor parking.

The second floor will consist of 10 function rooms, six offices, and two cafeterias that can accommodate around 700 people.

The third floor will house a standard-size basketball court that has a 4,225 seating capacity.

Elevators will be built in the convention center in order to make all facilities accessible to persons with disabilities (PWDs) and senior citizens.

Tiangco announced a mini-contest for residents who can suggest a name for the convention center in his official Facebook page.

Those who are interested to join may submit their entries in the comment portion along with the hashtag #Navotas116. The chosen winner will receive P5,000.

No date has yet been announced on the expected completion of the convention center.
