Warden replaced over Caloocan jail riot

The warden of the the Caloocan City Jail was sacked from his post over the deadly riot on Monday, Jan. 10, that left six people dead and more than 30 other inmates injured.

Sacked was Jail Supt. Neil Subbi. He was replaced by Jail Supt. Lloyd Gonzaga.

Supt. Xavier Solda, spokesperson of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penonology (BJMP), said the Caloocan City Jail remains under heightened alert over the riot which started when two inmates engaged in a heated argument.

“Nakipagugnayan na ang pamunuan ng Caloocan City Jail sa pamilya ng mga nasawi (The Caloocan City Jail leadership had already coordinated with the families of the victims),’’ Solda said.

After conducting a dialogue with the inmates, Solda noted that the BJMP immediately “Greyhound Operations’’ on Jan. 10 in the various prison cells to rid them of any contrabands like improvised deadly weapons.

BJMP chief Director Allan Iral ordered the BJMP-National Capital Region (NCR) to expedite measures that will bring back normalcy as all activities were temporarily suspended in the jail facility pending the result of the in-depth investigation.

“Bagamat ikinalulungkot ng BJMP ang mga pangyayaring gaya nito, tuloy pa rin ang aming trabaho para isulong ang mga programang makatutulong sa mga kapatid nating nasa piitan (Even if the BJMP is saddened by incidents like this, we will still continue to perform our tasks to enhance the programs that will aid our brothers in jail),’’ Solda lamented.
