Sustainable body butters that are good for you and the world

It's unimaginably way better!

The Body Shop was way ahead of its time. In 1992, they launched the first ever body butter that became a cult favorite across the globe. Did you know that it was created in the kitchen of its founder Dame Anita Roddick? Her daughter named it, while enjoying a piece of toast, "It's like butter... for your body."

How witty, right? And after three decades, it remains to be one of the brand's bestsellers—selling one in every three seconds around the world. It has also evolved and improved, the new body butters are now registered by The Vegan Society which is considered to be a gold standard for vegan certification. It is also made with ingredients of at least 95 percent natural origin that includes handcrafted Community Fair Trade shea butter from Ghana and Tungteiya Women's Association in northern Ghana, delivering 96-hour moisture. It even comes in the most sustainable packaging made with 100 percent recycled plastic tubs.

Community Fair Trade helps provide financial independence for Ghanaian women. And today, about 600 women from 11 villages handcraft the shea butter using 18 stages of processing via their traditional methods that have been passed on from generations to generations. These body butters have proven why their iconic—smooth without being sticky.

From the first mango flavor, it now has grown to offer more such as strawberry, british rose, pink grapefruit, satsuma for normal skin; moringa, mango, and avocado for dry skin; shea, coconut, argan, and olive for very dry skin. There's even almond milk for dry and sensitive skin.

Making it even more sustainable are their recyclable packaging. It's made with aluminum lids, 100 percent recycled plastic, Community Fair Trade recycled plastic that has been collected from the streets of Bengaluru in India. This is in collaboration with the company's trade partnership with Plastic for Change. This program, not only helps alleviate the world's plastic problem but also supports around 2,500 marginalized waste pickers in India, providing better working conditions for them as well.
