Malacañang admitted Tuesday, Jan. 11, that it is "concerned" by the reported hacking of the Commission on Elections' (Comelec) servers just a few months ahead of the May 2022 polls.

"We will await any update to be pronounced by Comelec regarding this ‘no," Cabinet Secretary and Acting Presidential Spokesperson Karlo Nograles said in a virtual press conference when he was asked about the alleged hacking.
"Siyempre nababahala rin kami (Of course we are also concerned), obviously we are also worried ‘no about this kung totoo man ito (if this is true). So antabayanan na lang siguro natin, hintayin natin na magpalabas ng official statement ang Comelec tungkol sa report na ito (So let’s just wait for Comelec to come out with an official statement on this report)," he said.
On Monday, Jan. 10, the Manila Bulletin ran a story revealing that a group of hackers was allegedly able to "breach the servers of the Comelec", and after doing so "downloaded more than 60 gigabytes of data that could possibly affect the May 2022 elections".
Comelec--in response to the story, which has since gone viral--said it would verify the alleged server breach.
The May polls will determine President Duterte's successor, among other key positions in government.
