Over 2,000 active cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) were recorded in Manila for the first time this year.
About 2,290 cases were reported by the city government as of Tuesday, Jan. 11.

A day earlier, there were 1,760 recorded COVID-19 cases, a one-day increase of 530 cases.
Majority of the COVID-19 cases are concentrated in the following Manila city districts: Tondo (614), Sampaloc (359), Sta. Cruz (191), San Andres (180), and Sta. Mesa (170).
To combat the COVID-19 surge, Manila launched three different booster vaccination programs: a nighttime booster vaccination campaign for Divisoria market workers from Jan. 5 to Jan. 6; a drive-thru booster vaccination for delivery riders at the Bonifacio Shrine from Jan. 6 to Jan. 7; and another drive-thru booster vaccination for all motorists and cyclists of the general population also at the Bonifacio Shrine from Jan. 8 to Jan. 10.
Meanwhile, Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso announced on Jan. 10 that Manila district hospitals will only admit patients with severe to critical symptoms due to the current high hospital occupancy rate.
Manila also replenished its nearly depleted medicine stock with 40,000 tablets of anti-COVID-19 drug Molnupiravir.
