Bongbong camp tells Comelec: Ensure integrity of your system, elections
The camp of presidential aspirant Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has called on the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to investigate the reported hacking of its servers and to ensure the integrity of its system and the upcoming elections.
In a statement Tuesday, Jan. 11, Marcos Jr.s' spokesman, lawyer Vic Rodriguez, said they do not want "to immediately jump into any conclusion that could lead to undermining or discrediting the preparations and the conduct of the May 9 general elections."
However, for now, Marcos' camp is calling on the Comelec Steering Committe and the Joint Congressional Oversight Committee (JCOC) "to convene, initiate the probe and work to ensure the integrity of the systems and of the forthcoming elections."
"We are keenly observing the development on the alleged hacking on the Comelec systems with prudence by awaiting confirmation from those tasked to investigate the incident," Rodriguez added.
On Monday night, the Manila Bulletin reported that sensitive voters' information may have been compromised after a group of hackers allegedly managed to breach the Comelec servers and downloaded more than 60 gigabytes of data.
Other downloaded files reportedly also include network diagrams, IP addresses, list of all privileged users, domain admin credentials, list of all passwords and domain policies, access to the ballot handling dashboard, and QR code captures of the bureau of canvassers with login and password.
