They left their nets and followed Him

The scene of the first disciples’ calling is quite poignant. For a fisherman whose main tool of the trade is the nets, leaving them is tantamount to leaving everything behind. What happened was not merely a change of livelihood; rather, their whole life has come to a complete change. They even left their family to discover what Jesus had to offer. Shall we say for the better? Definitely, for they experienced a new life in Jesus! Can we also experience such life-changing moment, without having a drastic change of life situation? Indeed, we can! We change our lives not just by jumping to another profession, but by being firm in committing our lives to Christ. Sometimes, it may hurt to let go of the life we are accustomed to: the vices, the attachments, the indulgence, but the stakes are so high that we will not regret that we have followed Jesus like the disciples. Christ always beckons to us, “Come after me!” When did I fully commit myself to follow Christ? Am I still devoted to this commitment to discipleship? Gospel • Mk 1:14-20 14 After John had been arrested, Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the Gospel of God: “This is the time of fulfillment. The Kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the Gospel.” As he passed by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting their nets into the sea; they were fishermen. Jesus said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Then they left their nets and followed him. He walked along a little farther and saw James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They too were in a boat mending their nets. Then he called them.
