Remulla bucks lockdown; says 96% of Cavite active COVID-19 cases mild, asymptomatic
CAVITE – Gov. Jonvic Remulla said that 96.4 percent of active coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the province are mild or asymptomatic as he reiterated his opposition to the imposition of any form of lockdown.
Cavite currently has the most number of active COVID-19 cases in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon), with 4,273 cases recorded as of Jan. 9 according to data from the Department of Health - Center for Health Development IVA.
In a Facebook post on Monday (Jan. 10), Remulla said that despite the sharp increase in active cases, Cavite's intensive care unit (ICU) utilization rate is at 41.5 percent or low-risk.
In addition to this, no COVID-19 deaths have been recorded in the province over the latest surge.
Despite most patients having mild or no symptoms, the governor reminded his constituents to follow minimum health protocols to avoid catching the highly contagious variant.
The governor, meanwhile, reiterated his stance on a possible lockdown.
"I WILL VEHEMENTLY OPPOSE ANY LOCKDOWN. Our policies must be based on reality and humanity (economic and welfare)," Remulla said. "The effects of a never-ending lockdown outweigh the benefits."
