Prelate discourages hoarding of meds

With the surge in coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases, an official of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has appealed to the public to buy only the medicines that they need.

CBCP Vice-Chairman Bishop Oscar Jaime Florencio issued the appeal amid the reported lack of supply of paracetamol and other drugs in pharmacies.

"If we don't need that much, don't buy that many drugs. It is not just you, who wants to live," he said.

Florencio added: "It is greediness to buy a large number of medicine. Please don't do it." The prelate also believes that the surge in cases is an invitation for everyone to get vaccinated.

He urged those who have been vaccinated to encourage others to do the same.

"Let us give assurance to those unvaccinated that it is safe," said Florencio.

The Department of Health on Sunday, Jan. 9, reported more than 28,000 new cases of COVID.
