Manila breaches three million mark in vax efforts

I am proud to state that the city of Manila has already breached the three million mark in terms of the total number of vaccine doses administered in our continuing mass vaccination program.
We owe it to the people of Manila who have heeded our repeated calls for them to get vaccinated and benefit from the extra protection that the said shots provide, not only for their sake but for that of their loved ones.
Of course, we also have to express gratitude to and highly commend those behind the city’s mass vaccination program led by Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna and Manila Health Department chief Dr. Poks Pangan, for their tireless efforts in vaccinating as many as possible to help the national government in achieving the needed number in terms of population protection.
Our vaccinating teams and technical people have not given up and disregard all sorts of risks to get the job done.
From day one and up until now, all of them work on extended hours, on holidays and weekends, just to be able to serve those seeking to get vaccinated.
Specially these days, the lines have doubled and even tripled, amid the growing concerns brought about by the sharp increase in the number of COVID infections following the holidays.
Indeed, the number of would-be vaccines also rose to high levels as they continue trooping to our 44 health centers, designated shopping malls and community sites.
As of this writing, a total of 3,074,981 vaccine doses have been given by the city government of Manila with 12,315 shots administered on Monday alone.
So far, 1,608,793 individuals have been vaccinated and of the number, 1,505,400 have been fully-vaccinated. A total of 155,030 vaccines already received booster shots.
In the case of minors, 22,861 been given the shots with 107,354 now fully vaccinated.
With all these, the city of Manila has indeed, exceeded the targeted number of vaccines to achieve the required population protection.
Based on the figures of the Comelec, the eligible population in the city is 1,065,149 while based on the Department of Health, the needed number is 1,351,487.
The Omicron variant had been sweeping communities in ways we have never seen before.
Clearly too, it has overwhelmed our health frontliners once again. In the case of Manila alone, our very own city-run hospitals are suffering from the brunt of the virus.
Many of our hospital staff have been infected and yet, those left to take on the jobs of those who were downed by the virus are still showing their dedication to duty despite the hardships and risks involved. We are not alone in this situation as many other cities suffer the same fate.
To our health frontliners, our modern-day heroes, I take my hats off.
The least that we can do for them is to make sure that we get vaccinated. This way, the possibility of transmission is stemmed and our health personnel can finally take a much-needed break from being overworked.
Let us join hands in an effort to beat COVID-19. Thanks to all Manilans for their continued cooperation and support for the city government’s #VaccineNation campaign.
