In a separate Facebook post on Jan. 9, Mayor Antolin “Len Len” Oreta III said that wearing a face mask can minimize the chance of getting the virus.
“Ngayong patuloy ang pagdami ng COVID-19 positive dito sa Malabon, it is important that we take the necessary precautions para makaiwas sa nakakahawa at nakamamatay na sakit na ito (Now that the number of COVID-19 positive cases continues to increase here in Malabon, it is important that we take the necessary precautions to prevent this contagious and deadly disease),” Oreta said.
“A person can get COVID-19 faster when not wearing mask. Kahit na anong mask pa man ang available ngayon, gamitin niyo ito for lesser chances of getting infected. Magtulungan tayong tapusin ang pandemyang kinakaharap natin (No matter what mask is available now, use it to reduce the risks of infection. Let us work together to end the pandemic we are now facing). We can do this together,” he added.
The city mayor said that the Omicron variant is less lethal than the Delta variant but reminded the residents not to stay complacent about the situation.
“Patuloy tayong mag-ingat by observing the minimum health protocols na ipinatutupad natin. (We must continue to be vigilant by observing the minimum health protocols that we implement). Always wear your face mask, practice social distancing, sanitize your hands every now and then, stay at home kung walang importanteng gagawin sa labas (if there is nothing important to do outside),” he said.
