Independent research group OCTA said on Saturday, Jan. 1, that the National Capital Region's (NCR) reproduction number has increased to 4.05.

OCTA research fellow Dr. Guido David said in a tweet that this is the highest since April 2020 which was the onset of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
Saturday's case tally of NCR which is 2,530 recorded by the Department of Health (DOH) is the highest since Oct. 10, 2021.
"In one week, the 7-day average in new cases increased from 90 to 962 (from December 26 to January 1), an increase of 969%," David said.
Meanwhile, he also mentioned lower testing output will likely lead to a dip in the numbers in NCR for January 2 to 3 to less than 2,000.
