SAN JOSE CITY, Nueva Ecija – A one-year-old boy died when the gun of his policeman father accidentally fell and went off in Barangay Palestina here on Thursday, Sept. 29.
Investigation showed that the tot’s father, Patrolman Crisdie Manuel, 33, assigned to the Nueva Ecija 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company and a resident of Barangay Palestina, was on his way home from work on board his motorcycle when his neighbor invited him to have a drink at about 6 p.m.
Manuel went home after consuming a bottle of beer and was happily greeted by his son when he arrived.
He was about to embrace the boy when he accidentally dropped his service firearm. The gun hit the ground and went off and the bullet hit the boy in the chest.
Manuel and his neighbor rushed the victim to San Jose City General Hospital in Barangay Malasin here where he was pronounced dead on arrival by attending physician Dr. Joseph G. Dizon.
The hospital informed police about the incident and Manuel voluntarily surrendered with his service firearm.
Manuel is under the custody of the police and during on-site investigation, lawmen recovered one caliber 9mm shell casing.
