Dragon fruit festival held in Guimaras


ILOILO CITY – The island province of Guimaras recently held the 1st Guimaras Dragon Fruit Fest to promote homegrown dragon fruit.

Speaking at the two-day event, Gov. JC Rahman Nava said dragon fruits have a big potential and that it can be an economic stimulant for the province, which is also known for producing one of the sweetest varieties of mangoes in the country.

The festivity with a trade fair at the Capitol grounds in Jordan aims to boost Guimaras’ standing in the agri-fishery and eco-tourism sectors of Western Visayas.

Nava added that the public and private sectors are looking at diversifying potential products that can help Guimaras bounce back from the negative impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Guimaras Dragon Fruit Fest also had several other activities organized in partnership with the Guimaras Agri-Tourism, Farmers, Owners, Operators Association (GAFOOA).

There were cooking demos in which chefs and cooks showcased food, desserts, and refreshing drinks made with dragon fruit.

There was also a business forum, a dragon fruit farming workshop, a job fair, and a bike caravan.

The 1st Guimaras Dragon Fruit Fest was part of the celebration of the National Tourism Month.
