275 drug offenders locked up at Baguio City Jail Male Dorm

BAGUIO CITY – Illegal drug offenders comprise most of the Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) at the Baguio City Jail-Male Dorm as of Friday, Sept. 23.

Jail Supt. Mary Ann Ollaging-Tresmanio reported during the virtual Third Quarter City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC) meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 27, presided over by Mayor Benjamin Magalong, CADAC chairman, that BCJ-MD currently has a total jail population of 435 PDLs.

She said 275 are locked up for violating Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, 49 for rape, 32 for murder, 12 for homicide, and 10 for acts of lasciviousness in relation to RA 7610 (Act providing for stronger deterrence and special protection against child abuse).

Tresmanio said 226 greyhound operations in which jail cells were checked for illegal drugs and other contraband items were jointly conducted with operatives of the Philippine National Police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

She said during the greyhound operation last Sept. 27, 61 PDLs and 69 employees of the Baguio City Jail Male Dorm tested negative in a surprise random drug test.

No illegal drugs or any drug paraphernalia were found during the greyhound operation.

From July to September, Tresmanio said 71 PDLs have been undergoing face-to-face Outpatient Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation (ODTR) and 50 face-to-face drug dependency examination (DDE) at the Baguio City General Hospital and Medical Center.

She said that 15 PDLs are currently undergoing jail community service for seven months as part of their Phase 2 of the ODTR after-care program.
