Something plant and spicy

This month in fast food: a lean, mean, meatless machine and something to satisfy your piquant cravings

FAUX CHIC Plant-based chipotle chicken sandwich

If you’re one of those people who don’t follow the logic that a burger is a salad—since it does have lettuce and tomato—then this set of sandwiches is for you.

ArmyNavy Burger + Burrito in collaboration with The Vegetarian Butcher, one of the leading suppliers of excellent plant-based meat products, has introduced two new items on its more sustainable menu.

“The Lean, Mean, Meatless Machine” is a pair of healthy sandwiches, a love letter by the restaurant to fans and general patrons who prefer greener alternatives when it comes to food and lifestyle choices.

Even though there is zero meat in these sandwiches, they still have the same crispiness and savor, which those familiar with the offerings of the burger brand and meaty meal enthusiasts should enjoy.

Classic but not basic, the plant-based Classic Chicken Sandwich is a crispy, breaded plant-based patty topped with mayo on toasted potato burger buns. The plant-based Chipotle Crispy Chicken Sandwich, meanwhile, is a healthier substitute to the signature sandwich with its breaded plant-based patty drizzled with Chipotle pepper sauce, topped with onion rings, lettuce, and mayo on toasted sesame potato Kaiser buns.

BUNS GALORE Plant-based crispy chicken sandwich

The plant-based chicken patties are made from vegetable meat and packed with nutritional value. With a soy base, the chicken proxy is high in protein, fiber, and a good source of vitamin B12 and iron.

The switch to a healthier alternative without sacrificing flavor is made possible through the partnership with the Dutch-born brand The Vegetarian Butcher, otherwise known as the “Future Butcher,” whose innovations have allowed chefs and home cooks to create plant-based dishes that taste like pork, beef, and chicken. The collab succeeds in creating a formula that emulates the authentic meaty taste of the chicken sandwiches while using greener ingredients.

GETTING HOT IN HERE McSpicy

In other news, McDonald’s has some burning tricks up its sleeve with the launch of the spicy chicken range that includes the Spicy Chicken McDo and the return of two fan favorites, the McSpicy and Spicy McNuggets.

The Spicy Chicken McDo, composed of a captivating blend of spices, takes the classic chicken up a tingling notch. McSpicy also makes a comeback, returning as we remember it as a thick, crispy, and spiced fried chicken cutlet, sandwiched between sesame buns and accompanied by crispy lettuce. And last, the original McNuggets get coated and infused with dried peppers.
