Long years of inconvenience finally over for Carranglan residents with completion of hanging bridge

NUEVA ECIJA – The Department of Public Works and Highways Nueva Ecija 1st District Engineering Office has completed the construction of an 86-meter hanging bridge in Sitio Santolan, Barangay Minuli, Carranglan.

Hopefully, residents in three sitios of Carranglan, namely, Sitio Santolan, Malidi and Sentro, will no longer have to be in danger of crossing the Talavera River.

Project Engineer Tomasito C. Duldulao said the project has now ended the long years of severe inconvenience Carranglan residents had been experiencing just to get to the other side of the Talavera river.

District Engineer Armando Z. Manabat said the hanging bridge was constructed at a budget of P4.9 million taken from the 2022 General Appropriations Act.

Farmers can now also access this area of Carranglan without putting their lives at risk crossing the river, especially during the rainy season, Manabat said.

There had been life-threatening incidents in recent years, according to the local government owing to strong current and rapid flow of the river's water.

Students also stand to benefit from the project, more so with most schools soon to return to full face-to-face classes after more than two years of online learning due to the pandemic.

Students will now enjoy some ease in travel from their homes as the bridge is only about 700 meters away from Minuli Elementary School.

“Noon, nakakaawa po ang ating mga ka-barangay dahil halos lumalangoy po sila sa ilog. Nakikipagsapalaran po sila sa agos ng tubig para lang makabili ng bigas at ibang pangangailangan,” Said Edgardo Florentino, Barangay chairman of Brgy. Minuli.
