PH powerlifters reap 78 medals in Malaysian tilt


The Philippine powerlifting team made heads turn in the inaugural Southeast Asian Cup 2022 recently in Johor Bahru, Malaysia after reaping 78 medals.

The Filipino lifters collected 44 gold, 17 silver and 17 bronze medals in the men’s and women’s categories apart from setting 10 Asian records – four in the junior division.

Among those who set a new Asian junior mark was Ross Emanuel Teodosio, who clinched four gold medals overall.

The Imus, Cavite native reset the Asian junior record en route to topping the junior squad and junior total, while also winning gold medals in the junior bench press and junior deadlift of the 120kg division.

Other medalists were Rafael Cahilig, Nestor Redulla Jr., Francis retardo, Emilio Lorenzo, James Emmanuel Sy, Johan Chan, Maphi Daniel Polvora, Jalen Cytienne Cruz, Lance Gabriel Laquian, Rhodison Jay Esmundo and Merwin Torres.

The men’s team won 49 medals while the women’s crew snared 29.

Joyce Reboton bannered the female crew by ruling the 76kg open division with four gold medals.

Also pocketing medals were Ma. Angelica Savillo, Jeremy Reign Bautista, Christine Alejandro, Charlene Tugade, April Williams, Rikki Saul and Bea Piedad.
